If character modeling try zbrush, if archviz then try max. I personally don't use Blender as my primary DCC yet, switched from Max to Maya right now as it kinda does the same stuff I do with way better performance, UI customization and sort of faster workflow ( love these pie menus for modeling and especially the Blender style UI customization ).įirstly choose what kind of work you like most. Geometry Nodes are really great and powerful, almost like a piece of Houdini was built into Blender. Blender - Decent all-rounder ( Jack of all trades, master of none ), still rapidly developing and growing and it will likely surpass both Max/Maya in coming years. Main disadvantage is that it's very slow performance wise. I would consider 3ds Max like an alternative of Houdini since it's probably second most powerful DCC ( with plugins ).

To me personally Blender's material management system is kinda poop also Blender doesn't have proper groups which are necessary for animation or other kind of asset organization.ģds Max - Super good for ArchViz and VFX also there's plugin for anything and very powerful plugins overall. Also for example in Max if you want targeted camera you just click Target Camera checkbox meanwhile in Blender you have to create null object and then add "Track to" constraint. in Max if you use FumeFX or PhoenixFD for smoke sim you just click and drag out the Grid, in blender you have to add a box, then convert it to a grid, setup it etc. Technically Blender also requires more steps to do basic tasks e.g.

enable Wrangler in the Addons then use Ctrl+Shift+T if you want to import PBR bitmaps ( that automatically connect to it's slots ) including many similar shortcuts, basically year or few learning shortcuts alone so Blender is slower to start with. 3ds Max is way more intuitive and easier to use, nearly everything you can do there's a button for it, meanwhile in Blender you have to learn the shortcuts for a lot of stuff e.g.
